FAQ - frequently asked questions
Who are these workshops for?
For people practicing capoeira and those interested in developing the musical aspects of this art. We try to prepare classes for different levels of experience, but it’s helpful to already know the basics of playing the berimbau, pandeiro, or atabaque.
Is there an age limit?
Yes, the event is for individuals who are 15 years old or older.
Is parental consent required for minors to participate in the workshops?
Yes, if you are a minor, a signed parental consent form is required, including the designation of an adult guardian for the duration of the workshops. Please bring the signed document to the event. link
W jakim języku prowadzone są zajęcia?
Classes will be conducted in English and, in exceptional cases, in Portuguese. We will ensure the presence of people in the classrooms who will translate into Polish if necessary.
What does the schedule look like?
We refine the formula each year, but generally, the workshops consist of joint sessions and several thematic blocks, allowing each participant to create their own "schedule of activities." On average, 4-5 classes run simultaneously, with groups of up to 30 people. Our instructors decide each year on the topics and specific issues for their workshops. We make sure that there are always elements of singing, leading the roda, playing techniques on instruments, music interpretation, as well as topics from other Brazilian musical traditions (e.g., samba, maculelê, etc.).
Do I need to bring my own instruments?
No, we strive to provide instruments for everyone at each class, but if you have extra instruments and are willing to share them with other participants, please let us know.
Is accommodation provided for participants?
No, accommodation must be arranged independently. However, if you need assistance, feel free to contact us at spiewamos@gmail.com, and we will try to help. You can also ask other participants in the WhatsApp group: WhatsApp Group. spiewamos@gmail.comand we will try to help. You can also ask other participants in the WhatsApp group: Whatsapp link.
Are physical activities included in the workshops?
During the workshops, there are traditionally rodas, and some classes include movement elements. Therefore, it's a good idea to bring comfortable clothes and soft shoes to change into.
What do the levels of the classes mean?
While arranging the schedule of activities in coordination with all the teachers, we wanted to provide adequate stimulation for all event participants, regardless of their level of experience. We want both the leaders of their communities and those completely fresh to them to learn something practical about music.
Since musical level does not always go hand in hand with seniority, this is one of the biggest challenges in organizing Śpiewamos, and every year we rely heavily on your self-assessment.
Beginners - For those wishing to learn “from scratch” who have little experience with the practice of music and/or the musical layer of capoeira
Open level - When the topic of the class does not depend too much on the experience of the participants and during the lesson each person can work at his level
Advanced - For the most experienced attendees of the event, who are looking for niche and expert knowledge and during the classes intend to squeeze our teachers like a lemon.
